New Art: Far North Poetry Design

Robert W. Service was a poet who wrote during the gold rush era in the Klondike and Yukon. His work captured the spirit of the grizzly men who battled long winters, moonlit days and other grizzly men in their quest for riches.

This art was commissioned as stationery to accompany the poems for a company in North Pole, Alaska. The style is reminiscent of early 20th century print art. The illustrations capture some common scenes of the far north - rustic log cabins, gold panning along rivers and across the bottom of the art, the Northern Lights.

This piece is a bit of a departure from my usual style of art and for that, it was a lot of fun!

He is my favorite poet! Have you read his "Cremation of Sam Magee;" I first was introduced to Service"s works in 5th grade and have been a fan ever since.
